Biafra: Federal High Court Denies Kanu, Two Others Bail

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday denied bail to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra and founder of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, and his two other co-accused.

Kanu, David Nwawusi and Benjamin Madubugwu are being prosecuted on six counts of treasonable felony, unlawful possession of firearms and other offences bordering on their agitation for secession of the Republic of Biafra from Nigeria.

Justice John Tsoho, in rejecting the accused persons’ bail application on Friday, held that they were not entitled to bail as they failed to challenge the allegation by the prosecution that they would not continue to commit the alleged crime for which they were being prosecuted if granted bail.

Biafra: Kanu Detention Will Cause National Problem — Bishop Amaechi Agbo

ONITSHA—The General Overseer of Bethel House of God Mission, Awkunanaw, Enugu, Enugu State, Bishop Amaechi Agbo has advised the Federal Government to release the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu without further delay, to avoid throwing the nation into an unmanageable crisis.

He said Kanu’s continued detention will continue to create more problem for the Nigerian nation since according to him, detention of Kanu will not stop Biafra from becoming a reality, rather it would generate a crisis that will quicken the coming of Biafra.

Bishop Agbo who spoke at a special service organized for Nigerian leaders, noted that Biafra will surely come to pass, but not as soon as it is being speculated, rather at the appropriate time when the crisis will possibly force Biafra to separate from Nigeria.

“As for Biafra, it will come to pass but not now. Crisis will force Nigeria to separate from Biafra and nobody can stop it at the appropriate time,” he said.

On the general state of the Nigerian nation, Bishop Agbo identified 2016 as a year Nigerians would witness positive-like changing transformation in the country.

According to him: “The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has actually introduced truth, honesty and accountability to the management of the affairs of the nation,” adding that with the application of such healthy values in public service, the success of the nation’s security, economy, health, education and administrative policies, economic recovery would be guaranteed.

Biafra: Tension As MASSOB, IPOB Resume Protests Tomorrow

There was tension in the South-East, yesterday, following the threat by the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra , MASSOB, and the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to,  from tomorrow, lock down the  region in protests, over the continued detention of Radio Biafra Director, Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu, who was arrested by the Department of State Security,DSS, on October 17,2015, on arrival from the United Kingdom, has been in DSS detention facility in Abuja even though the Magistrate Court,Wuse 11,and Federal High Court, Abuja Division had both granted him bail and ordered his release.

In a statement by the MASSOB National Director of Information, Samuel Edeson, and IPOB Secretary, Ibem Ugwuoke Ibem, yesterday, the pro-Biafra groups warned the public to stay at home from tomorrow (Monday) as there will be massive civil disobedience, protests and demonstrations in the South-East and parts of the South-South to force the Federal Government to comply with the court orders.

In the meantime, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has ordered security operatives to arrest any pro-Biafra element flouting the ban against secessionist protests in any part of the state. The governor, who gave the order in a statement by his Commissioner for Information and Communications, Dr Austin Tam-George, yesterday, said government will not tolerate any form of pro-Biafra protest in any part of Rivers. Tam-George said the governor had to reiterate the ban on pro-Biafra protests in the state following reports that some agitators were embarking on illegal separatist processions and demonstrations in parts of Oyigbo local government area.
